David W. Mulcahy
Founder & Head Instructor
Dave is an Illinois Certified Plumbing Inspector, a Cross Connection Control Device Inspector and a Sr. Building Inspector/Plumbing/Mechanical who has more than two decades of plumbing experience and has worked as a Plumbing Inspector since 2005. He also serves as the Plumbing and HVAC committee’s liaison officer, assisting with code and amendment adoption, code review and interpretation for one of the largest suburbs in the Chicago land area. Dave feels uniquely qualified to help educate other professionals in the plumbing trade.
Military Experience
Serving a 6 year tour of duty in the Illinois National Guard Combat Engineers, Dave’s MOS duties included:
Heavy Equipment Operator, Gunner on the 88 mm Mortar, Motor Pool NCO and Cold Weather Instructor
In 1981, Dave’s unit was activated to assist with the safety and security of people and property during the severe flooding in Joilet Illinois. “Recovering stranded families from contaminated flood waters helps you appreciate the sanitary conditions that some take for granted.“
After receiving an Honorable Discharge, Dave worked for several years in a family business concern as an iron worker and steel fabricator before beginning his plumbing career in 1995, when he joined the Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 554.
Construction Experience
Some of the interesting projects Dave has enjoyed working on include; Hospitals, Schools, Water Treatment Plant, O’Hare Airport, Commercial Shell Buildings and Tennent build outs, Big box stores, High Rise Condo/Apt Conversion and Renovations, Senior Living Facilities, Hotels, Grocery Stores, Restaurants, Residential new construction and even Custom Home Projects in the North Shore Area.
Special Training, Certifications, Memberships and Associations
Becoming a Plumbing Inspector for a community with an approximate population of 110,000 in 2005, an ICC Certified Commercial & Residential Mechanical Inspector and an IEPA CCCDI Inspector in 2006, a Certified Plumbing Inspector and Senior Building Inspector in 2007, Dave continues his training by attending monthly IPIA meetings and annual IDPH symposiums (2006 to present). Annual IECC Energy Code Seminars (09 to present). Annual ABPA symposiums (2015 to present) Studying Residential Plan Review at the University of Wisconsin (2007 and 2008), LMCC- ICC Electrical Inspector training (2010 and 2016) Annual NWBOCA training events (2005 to present) B & F Technical- 1997 Illinois Accessibility Code (2005 and 2010)
