Illinois Plumbing License Test Dates (2024 & 2025)
Here are the upcoming Illinois Plumbing License Exam dates:January 9 & 10, 2024March 5 & 6, 2024June 4 & 5, 2024August 6 & 7, 2024October 8 & 9, 2024- January 8 & 9, 2025

Workshop Details
✅ A written portion (50-60 code questions)
✅ A drawing portion (a 2 to3 story building-w/DWV systems)
✅ A practical portion (copper & cast iron and/or PVC piping project)
✅ All exam prep material will be provided on the day of the Workshop. Just bring your identification and tools (see the full list below).

SCHEDULE:
7:30 AM – Registration
8:00 AM to 4:00 PM – Training
- 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM – Instruction
- 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM – Exam Prep Study
- 3:00 AM – 4:00 PM – Course Review
No guns or cell phones will be allowed.
No one will be allowed to leave the building once the class begins.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Pre-registration only. Walk-ins will NOT be accepted.
- Attendees MUST register and pay online—no refund policy.
- Supplemental online training courses and materials will be provided after registration. Access expires 30 days AFTER the attendee’s workshop so we recommend registering early.
- MAX # of attendees is limited to nine (9).
- Applicant must be a licensed Illinois plumbing apprentice with 056 license and with valid state ID (driver’s license or state ID).
- Must show two forms of identification at the door.
TOOLS TO BRING: Personal tools to bring to the workshop include, but are not limited to:
- Safety glasses (worn at all times in the warehouse area)
- Gloves
- Level
- Hammer
- Wood crayon, soapstone or similar for marking CI piping c
- Tape measure(s), Stick rulers are also allowed
- Channel locks
- CI soil pipe snapper
- Hacksaw / Pvc hand saw
- Pvc reaming/beveling tool
- Tubing cutter
- Copper reaming tool
- No hub torque wrench
- Medium glue & clear primer ( all-purpose is prohibited)
- Torch
- Lead-free solder
- Flux
- Sandcloth
- Fitting brush
- Black marker (sharpie)
- #2 pencil with eraser
- Green and blue colored pencils
- Straight edge/ruler
- Practical and study materials will be provided

The Illinois plumbing license exam is a test required (after completing a 4year apprenticeship) for individuals seeking to become a licensed plumber in Illinois. The final step towards becoming a licensed plumber in Illinois is passing the exam.
What does the Illinois Plumbing Exam cover?
Is the Workshop a plumbing exam practice test?
Yes and No. The workshop and online training materials aim to help you prepare for the exam and improve your skills before taking the exam. We do test you during the in-person workshop to help you gain confidence in your ability and know what to expect.
Do you offer any online training with the Workshop?
What tools do I need to bring to the Workshop?

Do I need any materials for the Workshop?
Practical and study materials will be provided. Just bring the tools listed above. Anything else you need will be provided.
Do I need an Illinois Plumbing Code Book?
Yes! Knowing and studying the code book is necessary for passing the Illinois Plumbing Exam. We will review the book so bring your book with you to the workshop.
What if I've never practiced drawing before?
Then you’re in the right place! We provide online training materials that includes an introduction to drawing and all the basics. Then, we provide advanced training materials for you to practice and get up to speed quickly for the upcoming exam. We highly recommend our Apprentice Code Training Classes if you need more practice and one-on-one assistance.
Do you have practice drawings I can use?
Yes! We have an entire online training section dedicated to drawing along with practice drawings you may print out and work on at home.
What if I've never used a pipe snapper or cast iron before?
Then you’re in the right place! Our workshop and online training materials will provide you with information and hands-on experience with the pipe snapper and cast iron prior to the exam. However, we recommend you practice at home to improve your skills before the exam. We have example projects with material lists in our online training materials to help you prepare.
How many attendees can attend the Workshop?
In order to provide the best training and service possible, we keep our workshops small. Currently, we have a maximum capacity of eight (8) apprentices per workshop. However, class sizes may increase as our team and systems grow.
Do I have to be a licensed apprentice to attend?
All attendees must be a licensed Illinois plumbing apprentice with 056 license and with valid state ID (driver’s license or state ID), and must show two forms of identification at the door.
No spots are open for the Workshop. What do I do?
We have limited spots per workshop and most workshops fill up months in advance. If no workshop spots are available, join our workshop waitlist and be the first to find out about workshop openings.
